Nursing Programme

Basic Nursing Programme

The Basic Nursing Programme is a three-year, six-semester course approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and will be administered by Bishop JWI Idahosa Memorial College of Nursing Sciences. While accreditation from the relevant regulatory body is currently pending, the programme is designed to equip students with essential nursing knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experience required to become competent and licensed Registered Nurses. During the program, students will undergo training in practical nursing skills, gaining the requisite knowledge and proficiency to become Registered Nurses (RNs). Registered Nurses are essential in providing support, care, and advice to patients with medical and surgical disorders. Their duties include measuring vital signs, observing patients, dispensing prescriptions, managing care records, delivering health education, and providing counsel and emotional support to patients and their families. Registered Nurses possess the qualifications to operate in diverse healthcare settings, encompassing tertiary healthcare facilities (e.g., National Hospital, Federal Medical Centres), secondary healthcare institutions (e.g., General Hospitals), and primary healthcare institutions (e.g., Primary Health Care, Comprehensive Health Care) worldwide.
